This ‘Spring Seedling’ made me so anxious. Why didn’t I see Jia Yuexian talking about the ‘Black Five Categories’ witch doctors, or see the health clinic director discussing the revisionist reactionary line?

Are you asking why we didn’t just defeat Jia Yuexian and the director of the health clinic right from the start? The struggle also has a process; it can’t be replaced by subjective human will with objective laws. Just like in the plot of the movie, Jia Yuexian is still deceiving and misleading some people, and the director of the health clinic also has influence. Tian Chunmiao also said in the latter part of the story that she initially only knew there were bad doctors, but didn’t elevate it to a political level to think about the issue of the capitalist-roaders. This shows that these reactionary elements had a certain influence in society at that time, and some people were deceived by them. When the struggle was not yet deep and contradictions had not yet unfolded, no one could make a definitive conclusion. We know they are reactionary because we are viewers, but those truly involved in the struggle can only gradually understand and distinguish left, middle, and right through their own practice. Saying it this way might sound a bit like armchair strategizing after the fact.

This comment was posted when I saw at the 40-minute mark. At that time, I felt it was almost halfway through and I was already anxious, so I posted this comment. But indeed, my view on the Cultural Revolution was not accurate; I thought that once Chairman Mao issued an order, the bourgeoisie would be immediately overthrown, neglecting the complexity and long-term nature of the struggle.

Chairman Mao’s order led to a great upheaval, which is actually also a heroic view of history; the fundamental force behind the struggle against the capitalist-roaders definitely still comes from the masses. You can check out some posts on forums discussing the struggles between the Red Guards and the capitalist-roaders during the Cultural Revolution, such as discussions about the Huairen Hall coup and the deeds of Hu Houmin, to see the complexity of class struggle during the proletarian Cultural Revolution.

Everyone’s understanding has to go through a process, and Chunmiao’s understanding of Jia Yuexian and the director of the health center, Du Wenjie, also involves a process. Expecting someone to see through the essence from the very beginning would be a form of priori theory.

Okay, I know about the Huairentang coup, but I don’t seem to remember it much. I’ll go read the articles recommended by my comrade again.
