The Russia-Ukraine war has lasted four years, and the people of both countries still have not seen the dawn of peace. According to multiple reports, under such conditions, many Ukrainian soldiers, uncertain of life or death, choose to freeze their sperm to “continue their lineage.”
Agence France-Presse reports that Ukrainian soldier Oleksandr dreams of one day living with his wife in the mountains and raising a son and a daughter. But being on the front lines, he knows that such a life is currently out of reach. Ultimately, he chose to follow the example of many comrades—freezing his sperm—to ensure that even if he encounters misfortune, his wife still has the opportunity to give birth to their children. According to new regulations by the Ukrainian government, from 2025 onwards, Ukrainian military personnel can freeze sperm for free, and many clinics have already begun offering this service.
However, the Ukrainian government’s move is merely to maintain its labor force reproduction and unilateral resistance policies. It is not for the happiness of the working people, nor can it truly change the suffering of the Ukrainian people. The fact is, the Ukrainian government has always regarded the working people as tools and has never genuinely cared about their reproductive issues. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Ukraine’s comprador government repeatedly “changed flags,” but the extreme poverty of the working people never changed. Many women have had to engage in prostitution, surrogacy, and other industries that sell their dignity and bodies, even making Ukraine notorious as the “European Uterus.” Before the outbreak of war, Ukraine’s birth rate was among the lowest in Europe. After the Russian imperialist invasion, the Ukrainian government persisted with its unilateral resistance policy, causing many Ukrainians to flee their homes and countless soldiers to sacrifice on the front lines. UN Population Fund Eastern Europe and Central Asia Director Ball stated: “Since the start of the war, Ukraine’s population has decreased by more than 10 million.”
In response to this situation, the Ukrainian government hopes for a “baby boom” after the war. However, the current unilateral resistance and surrender policies of the Ukrainian government are fundamentally incapable of bringing true peace to the Ukrainian people. Even if the war ends, the Ukrainian people will not escape the oppression and exploitation of the bourgeois government. As for the so-called free freezing of sperm and eggs, it is even more laughable. To win their happiness, the Ukrainian people must rely on a genuine people’s war to usher in true peace.
Like the Anti-Japanese War, in a certain sense, the Russia-Ukraine war can be said to be a massacre of the Ukrainian people by Russian imperialism and the comprador forces of Ukraine.
Unbelievable, there are actually such things. The comprador bourgeois government of Ukraine forces the people to go to the battlefield and die while simultaneously engaging in this kind of “sperm freezing” to ensure the continuation of descendants. It completely treats the people as consumable tools and livestock, just like an assembly line, with people dying on one side and “producing” people on the other.
In the war conducted by the government representing the reactionary class, the working people are treated as tools; first they are forced to go to the battlefield, and after the war ends, there is hope for a “baby boom” to restore capitalist exploitation and production.
