Summary of the bourgeois view on love (excerpt from the report of the Second Mass Meeting of the Proletarian Liberation Struggle Association 2025)

On May 28, 2025, the Proletarian Liberation Struggle Association held its second mass meeting of 2025. On the first day of the agenda, the first part of the conference report—the Association Activity Report (Overview)—was read aloud. The first part summarized the development of the association over the past two months, reviewed our work and achievements, and also reflected on mistakes and lessons learned. Since the conference report involves confidential association activities, most of it cannot be made public. Here, only a portion discussing the analysis and summary of the bourgeois view of love is disclosed for everyone to study and exchange.

… During the rectification movement, Fenghuo keenly perceived that the bourgeois view of love is the core of bourgeois ideology, elevating the rectification movement to a higher stage and proposing the main task of the rectification movement—to eliminate the bourgeois view of love. Regarding the bourgeois view of love, or the bourgeois attitude toward gender relations, Engels had long told us, “The ancient practice of mixed marriage, under the influence of capitalist commodity production, is increasingly changing, becoming more adapted to capitalist commodity production, and increasingly turning into blatant prostitution. Its moral corrosive effect is also greater. Moreover, its moral corruption of men is much more severe than that of women. Prostitution only degrades the unfortunate women who become victims, and they have not fallen to the extent commonly imagined. On the contrary, it corrupts the character of all men.” It is precisely the material oppression of women in modern capitalist patriarchal society—from the workplace, family, school, and society—that causes serious inequality in gender relations, and forms a stubborn, reactionary male chauvinist ideology that oppresses and manipulates women in the worldview of men. Views on love and marriage most clearly reflect a person’s moral outlook because they fully embody a person’s class stance and political viewpoint. One major reason the bourgeois view of love is prevalent in our association is the lack of scientific analysis of its class essence; even among our ranks, there is a tendency to separate views on love from political views. The bourgeois view of love, disguised under a super-class cloak, smuggles countless reactionary bourgeois ideas, seriously damaging collective interests and undermining revolutionary activities. In fact, as part of the worldview, views on love must be connected to a person’s political ideology. One cannot politically oppose capitalism while supporting capitalism in life. However, many male comrades with extremely serious bourgeois views of love do not consider the class essence of this reactionary bourgeois view but instead cover it up with glorifications of the oppressor as “deeply affectionate scoundrels” and slanders of women as “shameless sluts.” Many male comrades hide their perverted bourgeois view of love while beautifying extreme gender oppression as “sincere devotion” and “mutual consent,” even excusing it with reactionary bourgeois human nature theories like “food and sex are natural.” In response, Fenghuo thoroughly exposed the connection between the reactionary bourgeois view of love and the entire bourgeois worldview and traitorous philosophy, emphasizing: “Messing with women is messing with revisionism!” In revolutionary organizations, restoring male oppression of women inevitably involves personal usurpation of reputation and status and inevitably connects to following the revisionist line and restoring capitalism.

Through this thorough criticism of the bourgeois view of love, many male comrades have gained a profound understanding of the moral corruption of men in capitalist society and the differences in views on love between men and women. The views on love expressed by female comrades within the association are of petty-bourgeois nature, at most a variant of love supremacism, reflecting petty-bourgeois ideas of personal liberation. However, the bourgeois view of love expressed by many male comrades is a very dark, malicious, and ugly ideology of human oppression. It reflects the extreme selfishness of the bourgeoisie in views on love.

The bourgeois view of love is the manifestation of bourgeois individualism in views on love. Its core is the bourgeois ideology of harming others for self-benefit and profit-seeking. To satisfy their vulgar desires, it destroys women’s independent personality and dignity, unrestrictedly infringes upon and possesses women, treating them as objects to be casually toyed with. The essence of the bourgeois view of love is a reactionary combination of hedonism and egoism. On one hand, it promotes a reactionary (toward women) bourgeois lifestyle; on the other hand, it beautifies the brutal behavior of harming others for self-benefit under the guise of super-class love. It is a pathological sadistic psychology, a shameless possessiveness toward women, cruel, selfish, and extremely pursuing sexual stimulation, taking others’ pain as something to enjoy for one’s own pleasure. It is under the influence of this reactionary worldview that Chinese society has witnessed so many public and hidden, legal and illegal sexual crimes such as molestation, enticement, rape, and sexual abuse. It is under this reactionary worldview’s influence that Chinese society has become a living hell where malicious wolves and tigers surround women, and no matter how vigilant they are, they inevitably fall into traps.

“The bourgeoisie is not only a selfish class but an extremely selfish, profit-seeking class that will sacrifice all others’ interests to gain even a little benefit for itself.” The reason the bourgeois class nature is reflected in so many petty-bourgeois men, even among all male comrades in our association, is precisely because of the oppressor status of men in this capitalist patriarchal society. “Nowadays, in most cases, the husband must be the income earner, the breadwinner, at least among the bourgeoisie. This places the husband in a dominant position without any special legal privileges. In the family, the husband is the capitalist, and the wife is equivalent to the proletariat.”

“Taking pleasure in others’ pain can only arise among exploitative classes who consider harming others as natural and among those who have developed a habit of harming the oppressed.” Our male comrades in the association are Marxists and must never allow such dark, malicious, and cruel oppressive thoughts to exist within themselves! They must never tolerate holding such reactionary views on love and inflicting or intending to inflict cruel oppression on women! As Marxists living and fighting, we must not allow such a reactionary bourgeois worldview to remain within us! We must transform our worldview and establish a correct, bright, and great Marxist worldview, starting by removing these filthy thoughts from ourselves!

All female comrades, through this ideological struggle, have recognized the essence of bourgeois love, fully understood the reactionary nature of bourgeois and petty-bourgeois views on love, especially the male bourgeois view of love. At the same time, they have purged the remnants of petty-bourgeois love thoughts within themselves, fully realizing that women’s liberation cannot be achieved through individual struggle but only through social liberation. This has removed obstacles blocking women’s revolutionary path, strengthened revolutionary determination, and brought great growth. The progress of female comrades is also the progress of our entire association because women’s liberation and proletarian revolution are inseparable. A proletarian revolution without the participation of the vast oppressed women will ultimately not succeed. We must understand one thing: whether one acknowledges the existence of gender oppression and supports the women’s liberation movement is the touchstone distinguishing true Marxists from false ones. For the awakening and progress of female comrades, we true Marxists must sincerely congratulate and support them to continue on the path of revolution forever.

“We mourn those who have passed and vow: to be pure, intelligent, brave, and upward-moving ourselves and others. To remove false masks. To remove the world’s confusion and violence that harm oneself and others. We mourn those who have passed and vow: to remove meaningless suffering in life. To remove the confusion and violence that create and enjoy others’ suffering. We also vow: that all humanity shall receive just happiness.”

I just rewatched the fourth episode of the association’s series “Red Star Over China,” and saw this paragraph at the end:

“In the winter of 1920, I organized workers politically for the first time. In this work, I began to be influenced by Marxist theory and the history of the Russian Revolution… Once I accepted Marxism as the correct interpretation of history, my faith in Marxism was never shaken… By the summer of 1920, in theory and to some extent in action, I had become a Marxist, and from then on I also considered myself a Marxist. In the same year, I married Yang Kaihui.”

Previously, when I read “Red Star Over China” and saw this paragraph, I only thought it was talking about Chairman Mao’s change in political thought, and I thought the mention of Mao and Yang Kaihui getting married in the same year was coincidental or accidental, so I didn’t pay much attention or think much about it. But today, reading this, I suddenly thought of a theoretical result the association reached: that a person’s view of love is closely linked to their worldview. Mao’s change in love outlook must also have been accompanied by a change in his political thoughts. Mao became a Marxist in 1920 and has since unwaveringly believed in Marxism; his love for Yang Kaihui is also a revolutionary love of the proletariat. Therefore, marrying in the same year also reflects a progress in love.

Could you provide some specific examples in your discussion? I might not have a concrete understanding of the typical bourgeois view of love described in practice, as I haven’t been in a relationship myself and find it a bit hard to understand.

Are you new here? I suggest you start a new thread to introduce yourself in detail about your views on love encountered in the event, so that others can respond to you more clearly.

In simple terms, the bourgeois view of love is about oppressing the other person to satisfy one’s selfish interests. For example, many men who masturbate daily are just pretending to be honest in front of women, deceiving them into believing that they are not interested in sex but genuinely care about them, and then after dating, they use various PUA (Pick-Up Artist) tactics to have wild sex with their partners. They do not treat their partners as equals but as sexual tools, using all kinds of perverted and crazy methods to torment women. This is the most common manifestation of the bourgeois view of love, treating love as a social relationship of oppression.

In fact, this is an example of sexual crime incidents.
For example, this case: 男子不同意分手逼女友喝农药身亡,犯故意杀人罪被判15年
A couple, after cohabiting, the woman found that the man had not been working, so she proposed to break up, but the man refused. After the woman returned to her hometown, the man tricked her out to meet, forcibly took her back to the rental house (equivalent to kidnapping), locked the door, stole her phone, and threatened her to drink pesticide. During this process, he deceived the woman by saying “We need to break up, we both have to die,” but in fact only the woman drank the pesticide. His words and actions also revealed his true thoughts; he not only did not drink but also told the woman “You must drink, if you don’t die today, you’ll die tomorrow, you will die sooner or later,” “You drink first, I will drink after, if I die, I want to see you die first.” This shows that he actually takes pleasure in the woman’s suffering, using her painful death after drinking pesticide as a plaything and toy, which not only satisfies his perverted tastes but also fully embodies the bourgeois concept of love that “to satisfy one’s vulgar desires, destroy women’s independence and dignity, and unrestrictedly violate and possess women, treating women as objects to be played with at will.” Clearly, in his view, the girlfriend is not only his private property but also under his complete control, and women are just tools to satisfy his vile sexual desires; once she proposed to break up and left, he felt “the cooked duck flew away,” believing that since they were in a relationship and cohabiting but the property (the woman) ran away, he went crazy—“destroy what I can’t get.” His idea is that even if his property is “destroyed,” he does not allow her independence, does not allow her to break free from his control, and does not allow her freedom. During the process of deceiving and abducting her, he enjoyed the process of poisoning her to death, which is essentially viewing the other as his “possession,” controlling and playing with her. Moreover, he also said he would die with her, claiming that after she drank, he would drink too, pretending to be deeply affectionate to deceive her. This is what the article refers to as “the essence of bourgeois love view being reactionary hedonism and egoism, which on one hand promotes the reactionary bourgeois lifestyle towards women, and on the other hand, under the guise of super-class love, beautifies and justifies barbaric behavior that harms others and benefits oneself. It is a pathological sadistic mentality, a shameless possessiveness over women, cruel, selfish, and extreme pursuit of sexual stimulation, taking others’ suffering as something to bring oneself pleasure.”
(By the way, the verdict of this case is also very absurd; the court did not sentence the man to death for murder but only sentenced him to fifteen years in prison. They claimed that although the man had a criminal record and should be punished more severely, he did not use excessive violence and took the woman to hospital after the incident, so he should be punished lightly. It is ridiculous that forcing the victim to drink deadly pesticide can be justified with such reasoning. Can killing someone by non-direct violence and then hypocritically sending them to hospital after causing near-death injuries be used as a reason for exoneration, downgrade, or defense? This shows how barbaric the patriarchal society in China has become.)
There are many such cases. If you pay attention to social news related to gender oppression, you will see more; I will not list them all here.
Besides the phenomena of directly killing women, another very common phenomenon is the色情思想 (pornographic mindset) towards women. This is even more directly pervasive in all aspects of our daily life. For example, many men make lewd jokes about women; such verbal bullying is common both in schools and workplaces. In the arts, especially in so-called male-oriented content, female characters are often dressed in various ways to conform to different capitalist aesthetics and patriarchal disciplinary concepts. For instance, in “Honor of Kings,” the character “Daji” not only has a borderline, erotic appearance but also calls players “master” in dialogue. Games like “Arknights” and “Azur Lane” also contain countless sexual content. Many female characters are dressed in clothes that do not cover their bodies completely, with various settings implying sexual hints or submissive connotations. Clearly, this is the “deep affection scumbag” tone that glorifies oppressors and the “slut shaming” that slanders and belittles women, as mentioned in the article. In reality, no woman would suddenly become overly affectionate as depicted in these games; these designs are meant to satisfy the male fantasy and serve the interests of patriarchy. The recent “Black Dahlia” incident by Mihoyo is a concentrated embodiment of this bourgeois love view that oppresses and abuses women; you can see more details here: 反动法西斯男权游戏《崩坏:星穹铁道》的暴露——新角色大量细节暗示美国被虐杀的妇女!
If we talk about the bourgeois love view and sexual oppression reflected in current capitalist game culture, the most direct example is “galgame” (eroge). For example, see this post: 【讨论帖】反共反女权反人民的GalGame《长征:锦鹃万里红》及背后的男权工作室“Jox游戏”
I commented on the “Plush Angel Healing Life” galgame under that post. If the earlier mentioned games only involve explicit色情思想 (pornographic ideas) without directly addressing love concepts, then these eroge are clearly related to love views: 【讨论帖】反共反女权反人民的GalGame《长征:锦鹃万里红》及背后的男权工作室“Jox游戏” - #2,来自 红术
Moreover, many yellow games use love as a guise to slander women as overly submissive, glorify men as doing “redemption,” but in reality, men playing these games are after the色情内容 (pornographic content). As mentioned in the article, “on one hand hiding their perverted bourgeois love view, and on the other hand, glorifying extreme gender oppression ideas as ‘sincere effort’ and ‘mutual consent,’ even justifying them with reactionary bourgeois human nature theories like ‘food, sex, and desire.’” Furthermore, the prevalent色情漫画 (pornographic manga) culture in capitalism also follows this pattern. Many pornographic manga are based on the so-called “pure love” theme (but if it’s pure love, why must it be linked to sexual desire and physical stimulation? If it’s pure love, why do many men also read other morally degenerate types of porn manga?). Many people who watch “pure love” anime also browse related doujinshi, which directly exposes the true nature of so-called pure love. Regarding anime, the harem genre in romance shows more thoroughly reveals the bourgeois love view of treating women as commodities or even “sexual resources,” shamelessly and greedily possessing them.
In addition, some romantic animated films, such as several works by Makoto Shinkai like “5 Centimeters per Second,” “Your Name,” and “Weathering with You,” also have analytical value, but I will not elaborate on them here; I may discuss them later if I have time.

He is not asking about things encountered in his own life, but about what specific manifestations are in the arguments presented in the article.

So, what kind of view on love should we pursue now?

Good, thank you!

I suggest you take a look at “Guide to Ideological Struggle,” which is in the pinned posts. The latest section discusses issues of gender oppression and women’s liberation. Of course, we should pursue a proletarian view of love; only the marriage of the proletariat is based on love, premised on revolutionary interests, and founded on a common revolutionary cause. In other words, love itself should not be the primary consideration. True love is not something to be pursued but naturally arises within a shared cause.
If you want to further understand the worldview-related issues, you can read the book “Love and Hatred Must Be Clearly Distinguished,” which discusses the class nature of emotions.
If you want to understand specific issues regarding the view of love, you can look at “Ji and the Self-Introduction,” which talks about the problems of the view of love.
