The National Association of Foreign Student Advisers (NAFSA) stated that since mid-March, they have been receiving reports of international students and scholars having their visas revoked, records terminated in the SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System), and even being arrested or detained. A Chinese engineering student told The Wall Street Journal that he was not informed of the reason for his visa revocation and is currently working with a lawyer to try to restore his legal status in the U.S. He said he spent so much money but is now experiencing such a nightmare and regrets coming to America.
Another Chinese student in New York said she was frantically checking her social media posts to see if there was anything that could get her into trouble or liked posts. She said her parents have already urged her to go back home. She never thought she would be afraid of the content she posts in the U.S.
