On March 25, 2025, the highly publicized second trial of the Shanxi Datong “Engagement Rape Case” began. The criminal part was held at 9 a.m., and the civil part at 3 p.m. The court session lasted about four hours, ending around 1 p.m., without a verdict announced on the spot. A reporter learned from the mother of the male defendant that the criminal case would be announced at a later date. On the afternoon of March 25, the father of the male defendant posted a long article, claiming to “detail the truth and the suffering behind it: maintaining confidence in innocence and victory.” In this long Weibo post, the father of the male defendant stated, “After the incident, during communication with the female party, we were also very sincere.” “On May 3, the female’s older brother came to communicate, proposing to add the male party’s name on the house deed as soon as possible. After some negotiation, on May 4, our family also needed to sign a guarantee at the police station, promising to register the marriage before 12 noon on May 5. After the marriage registration, the joint ownership of the house would be processed. On the morning of May 5, at 11 a.m., we went to the Civil Affairs Bureau, but the female suddenly left. Subsequently, my son was notified by the police to turn himself in and was detained.” In this lengthy article, the father of the male defendant used euphemistic language, only saying “my son said they had consensual intimate contact, definitely not rape,” and “the suspect’s underwear and vaginal swab wipes tested with suspicious stains did not detect sperm or STR profiles.” However, the actual situation was that DNA profiles of both parties and semen stains from the bed sheets, surveillance, and other evidence confirmed: the female firmly refused premarital sex, set fire to the bedroom wardrobe and living room curtains to seek help, and even escaped from the room via a ladder to the 13th floor shouting “Help!” After these actions, she was forcibly dragged back into the room and raped. In the long article, the “female party also had at least two other dating records at the matchmaking agency; is there any hidden story? We sincerely request the court to conduct an in-depth investigation,” and the father of the male defendant’s comments such as “found many loopholes, and the statements of the female and witnesses also have many unreasonable parts” clearly cast suspicion on the victim, implicitly accusing the female of deception. But at the same time, they could not provide any concrete evidence for the “loopholes” or “unreasonable parts.” From another news report, we can see what kind of evidence the so-called “unreasonable parts” of the male defendant’s parents are, and what their underlying intentions are. On March 24, a reporter from Dahe Daily’s “Seeing” team visited the scene of the incident. Inside the room, the mother of the male defendant pointed to socks, hairpins, and other items, telling the reporter that they were left by the female party. One black item was a bra left by the female. The mother of the male defendant previously provided a “criminal appeal” stating, “Before the engagement, during the three months of dating, the two had a deep and sweet relationship, with intimate behaviors such as kissing, hugging, and touching. The current residence still contains many of the female’s personal clothes, such as bras, socks, and hairpins,” to prove that the female often stayed and interacted with Shi Moumou in the house involved in the case, providing the time and space for intimate acts. However, the item claimed to be a bra, used to prove that the female had already been intimate with the male, was actually a sleep mask. The mother of the male defendant, as a woman, could not have been unaware of what a bra is. Whether it is the accusations in the father’s words or the distortion by the mother, both aim to smear the victim, accusing the rape case not as his son’s crime but as the female’s deception to extort them. The female’s family initially demanded to make up the bride price and add her name to the property deed, which also became their basis for slander. However, these demands were made by the female’s brother and family, who are not victims of the rape but beneficiaries of selling their daughter. In fact, they are aligned with the male defendant’s family — one selling, one buying, a nest of snakes and rats. The most unfortunate victim is the woman who was betrayed by her family, raped, and then smeared with dirt.
The woman was sold by her family and was also raped, but it was clearly her family who wanted money, and the stigma of “not giving enough money” was placed on her.
The situation is as follows: in order to whitewash their son, the male party’s parents did not hesitate to lose face by publicly inciting a large number of supporters on Zhongxiu’s platform and in front of reporters to attack the female party for marriage and bride price deception. In January 2024, the female party returned the bride price, but the male party’s mother, citing fear of additional disputes, refused to take back the bride price, indicating that their accusations of the female party for marriage and bride price deception are completely false. Instead, they rationalize the male party’s act of raping the woman, claiming that the hymen was intact, no semen was found, etc. Before reporting to the police after the incident, the male party had face-to-face negotiations with the female party and her family, revealing that the mother did not care about her daughter being raped, but instead lied and deceived on both sides—one saying she was deceiving her daughter and the male party into getting a marriage certificate and still living together, and the other agreeing that the male party could continue to oppress the female party; on May 3, the female party’s brother also visited and firmly demanded that the male party quickly register the marriage with the female party and immediately add the female party’s name to the property deed, without mentioning the rape incident. In a private family system, as the only legal heir, the male’s family, along with the mother, conspired to sell the sister at a good price, showing no regard for her life or well-being, while the female party suffered greatly throughout this process.

In simple terms, the man who rashly tries to overturn the rape case related to the engagement is holding the logic that women are commodities that can be casually toyed with if money is paid. Therefore, they spread rumors that the woman was involved in a marriage scam, took the bride price, and then accused the man of rape, ignoring the fact that the woman had already returned the bride price. It is precisely because of this fact that the man who was wildly jumping around in this incident also fell behind in the face of public criticism.
Moreover, this matter itself is quite complicated. Originally, the bride price was money earned from selling daughters, so when the rape case occurred, the woman’s family still wanted to profit from it by forcing the man’s family to pay more bride price and transfer property. However, the woman herself probably disagreed with this approach, so in the end, she still took the rapist to court. But this point is completely overlooked by many; they only see the conflict between the man’s family and the woman’s family, but fail to see that the female victim is actually under double oppression.
Yeah. Many men below use this incident to attack women, slandering that women who report rape cases are just extorting money with bride price. In fact, the bride price itself, as money paid for selling daughters, does not belong to the women themselves but is held by feudal parents.
