I saw two news articles earlier, one said:
“The Office of the Customs Tariff Commission of the State Council issued an announcement that the Canadian government announced that, starting from October 1, 2024, it will impose a 100% tariff on Chinese electric vehicles; from October 22, 2024, it will impose a 25% tariff on Chinese steel and aluminum products… Approved by the State Council, the Customs Tariff Commission of the State Council issued an announcement that, from March 20, 2025, it will impose a 100% tariff on rapeseed oil, oil cake, and peas originating from Canada; and a 25% tariff on aquatic products and pork originating from Canada.”
Canada is a member of the imperialist bloc led by the United States, and the trade war between China and Canada should be part of the China-U.S. trade war. Imposing 100% tariffs on each other is extremely crazy. Probably to compensate for the losses caused by the trade war, China also signed a trade agreement with Ukraine, which is another news report saying:
“According to the Chinese Embassy in Ukraine, on March 6, Ambassador Ma Shengkun met with Ukraine’s Minister of Agricultural Policy and Food, Kovaly, and Director of the Food Safety and Consumer Protection Agency, Tkachuk. Ambassador Ma, on behalf of the Chinese General Administration of Customs, signed the ‘Protocol on Phytosanitary Requirements for Ukrainian Peas Exported to China’ and the ‘Protocol on Inspection, Quarantine, and Sanitary Requirements for Ukrainian Wild Aquatic Products Exported to China.’”
This probably also takes advantage of Ukraine’s unfavorable situation in the Russia-Ukraine war. Ukraine and Canada are both comprador states of the imperialist United States, but in order to oppose China and the imperialist bloc, and to reduce losses on the Russia-Ukraine battlefield, the US decided to abandon Ukraine; inside Ukraine, there may also be different comprador and traitorous groups. This has led to the current situation. I feel this vividly reflects the characteristic of imperialist powers fighting each other while also colluding.
Additionally, I saw another news report that said:
“Recently, a large number of Ukrainian Americans launched protests in the United States. They came to the Chinese Embassy in Washington, and the crowd was so large that they blocked the road in front of the embassy. They repeatedly shouted the slogan ‘Help us,’ and the banners they held also bore these words. To recover losses, the US also demanded Ukraine sign mineral resource agreements and carry out economic plunder of Ukraine to compensate for US military aid to Ukraine.”
It feels very absurd. They are petitioning the imperialist powers of China and Russia, hoping that China’s imperialist bloc will help Ukraine. Is this really a “mass” protest? It seems to be an activity organized by the bourgeoisie.
