According to a senior Ukrainian official, Ukraine has reached a consensus with the United States on key terms of a mineral agreement.
U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he expects Ukrainian President Zelensky to visit Washington on the 28th to sign the agreement. Previously, Trump had made a bold demand for 50% of Ukraine's mineral resources, which was rejected by Ukraine. Media reports indicate that Washington has abandoned its initial demand for potential revenues of up to 500 billion dollars from Ukrainian minerals.
Ukraine possesses about 5% of the world's "critical raw materials," including approximately 19 million tons of proven graphite reserves. It has one-third of Europe's lithium reserves. Before Russia launched a full-scale invasion three years ago, Ukraine produced 7% of the world's titanium, a lightweight metal widely used in aircraft and power plants. Ukrainian land also contains large amounts of rare earth metals. China and the U.S. are engaged in fierce competition in the new energy vehicle sector, with lithium and other rare metals being key components of batteries. Naturally, the U.S. is very interested in Ukraine's mineral resources.
Currently, the specific contents of the terms Ukraine will sign with the U.S. are not yet known. But it is clear that Zelensky, besides betraying the country, will have no other actions.
