My work issues and recent indulgent activities

Hello comrades, I can no longer modify my previous post, and some comrades suggested I post a work-related update. I feel very touched because recently I have indeed been troubled for a while due to work issues, and I want to talk about the reasons why the previous post was incomplete besides technical problems.

  1. My work belongs to the tertiary industry, with a daily working hours of ten hours, three shifts, one day off per month or double rest days, and overtime during special periods or working the previous day (overtime pay is available, but our boss still advises us not to overtime if possible, because overtime pay is only 15 per hour)
Most of my colleagues are young people, and the boss does not recruit older workers.
Currently, there are five people in my store: one store manager and four employees. The store manager is a young person younger than me, but he really dislikes being called a store manager, always feeling that this title is used to mock him. In fact, he is very aware that he is somewhat unqualified for the position, but he enjoys the “convenience” it brings.
For example: travel expenses (team-building activities) can be reimbursed, waste recycling costs in the store can be used for personal benefit (he thinks he can, but I oppose this), staff from other stores treat him politely (the reason is I mentioned that a store manager from another store was rude to his staff but polite to peers and superiors, and I called him a “two-faced person”), and he freely suppresses employees based on his status (that’s me , arguing hundreds of times a day, he is more than enough for me).
In terms of work, besides the daily tasks and basic sales, there are no major conflicts. The biggest issue between us is the daily sales settlement, which he always asks me to do (he used to do it himself, but later, due to various discounts and promotions, the accounts became more and more chaotic, so he handed this “hot potato” to me).
I told him directly: “You just think that if the accounts go wrong, and the boss asks who did it, it will be my problem, and it has nothing to do with you, because you never participate in this work.” (If he doesn’t want to do it, you have to do it; if you don’t, he thinks you are against him, and he can report to the boss.)
Although he rebutted me, I always have reasons to counter back, including his previous bad attitude towards me. I might make a small move or pass by him, and he would suddenly say: “stupid” (I swear).
The first time, I tolerated it; the second, third times…
We had a fierce argument, but as the argument intensified and increased in frequency, his attitude towards me improved noticeably. However, he already felt that I did not submit to him and was very dissatisfied with me ( of course, I was dissatisfied because I like to meet customers’ reasonable needs, which he considers a loss of profit, and indeed it is). My goal was to earn a good reputation for the store, promote customer word-of-mouth, attract more new customers, and retain old ones. He is the kind of person who believes that even losing a penny in the store is a huge loss. (The interests of staff and store managers are indeed different, I understand, but why the hell don’t I want customers to take the toilet paper? The store consumes a lot of toilet paper, isn’t it just for personal use at home? To save your usage , we even launched a one-yuan-per-pack toilet paper, but no one buys it anyway.)
Last night, an employee resigned to go to school. I discussed with him whether to organize a team-building activity. After all, colleagues are a family, and we can enjoy some good food. He agreed.
I proposed using public funds (the money from selling waste) to pay for this activity, and he also agreed (but before that, his electric scooter had a flat tire, specifically the boss’s car that he used public funds to repair. When I questioned him, he replied, “This car belongs to the store, and during the time I was going home, I was just riding it, right?” I kept quiet).
Finally, there is the issue of wages. I started working on September 22, 2023. During this period, except for special circumstances and when I was really exhausted, I had no leave (only one half-month leave per year, and they were reluctant to approve even that ). I was full attendance every month, actively worked overtime during busy periods, and voluntarily helped out. The manager required active participation in activities, and I did so, but they still wouldn’t let me take leave (helping is voluntary, with no overtime pay  I swear).
Yesterday, my salary was 3692 yuan (minus an advance of 200). The boss said I worked hard last month and gave me extra as a reward. Honestly, I was very happy when I saw it because I could use this extra money to buy what I wanted (clothes, shoes, etc.) and save a little. But it couldn’t hide the fact that I had worked for a year without a salary increase.
A colleague I get along well with (who has worked for four months) showed me his monthly salary of 3300 yuan, which is the same as mine. He told me beforehand: “Let me show you something that will make you feel cold.”
Indeed, it was chilling. I once did something that almost made me leave this world, but my boss proposed transferring me elsewhere and returning after the store (this store) was renovated. Because of the new store, I gave up the idea of death.
I see her as a lifesaver. She may differ from other bosses, having some empathy, but to secure her own利益集团 (interest group), she reuses family members. Except for a few stores, all management staff under her are family members. Non-family members have no room for promotion (the highest is deputy store manager, unless you can meet her satisfaction). My store manager is an example; he is her nephew, and his father also defected to my boss).
  2. Recent indulgent activities (the previous post was not completed, partly because I am addicted to indulgent activities)
Recently, I have been reading novels, playing games, and watching short videos.
Reading novels has been a habit since I was young, and later I bought a computer to prepare for a second job. I learn from the authors’ writing techniques and story development to apply to my own works, hoping to sell well and improve my quality of life.
Playing games was recommended by my friends. I couldn’t refuse, and since I love playing games, I participated. But my enthusiasm was not high, and after a few days, I stopped playing.
Watching short videos during work breaks and after work is a subconscious choice when I open the short video app (also part of my self-improvement plan). If I keep watching, my brain will become dull. Previously, I could speak fluently and clearly, but now I am not as articulate!!! :scream: I watch those abstract short videos and game explanations, feeling pretty good at first, but gradually wasting my rest time, and I go to work exhausted every day.
I have been trying to gradually quit short videos by reading books and watching complete movies to break my dependence (but obviously, I have failed so far; I can’t watch long ones, except when eating, which is very satisfying).
After work, I also picked up the bad habit of smoking. It’s funny—before work, I had no interest in smoking and even disliked it. But to quickly deepen bonds with colleagues around me, I chose to smoke (now I am quitting because my throat is a bit hoarse… starting by reducing the frequency, I don’t want my naturally good voice to be ruined). (This is what I am most confident in).
Above is a general overview of my work and recent indulgent activities. My biggest problem is the deep-rooted small-asset trait, always having a little enthusiasm for anything. Plus, I never proactively learn, leading to rigid thinking and metaphysical views on problems. I don’t dare say I can solve my issues quickly, because I am very clear about what kind of person I am

Could you elaborate? This kind of narration makes the process seem relatively easy.

The fact is so simple: she just sends her calculated salary to the boss, and the boss pays her. The reason is that the boss had been duped in this area before.

I see, this is the purpose of the struggle

I really resonate with the arrogant and domineering attitude of store managers in the service industry. Previously, during my high school summer vacation, I worked at a milk tea shop. The manager, besides asking me to learn the recipes on my own and memorize them in my free time, just had me do various chores. After learning some things, he would assign me tasks and then go to video chat with his girlfriend. However, since I didn’t work there long, I didn’t encounter the bookkeeping work you mentioned. But the store manager there also refused to do the accounts himself; it was another coworker who finished it. If the capitalists called and said there was a discrepancy somewhere, the manager would check it once, and in the end, it was the coworker who had their wages deducted. I think this kind of bookkeeping work should be done by the store manager. The capitalists pay him a higher salary than regular employees, which is meant for him to handle these tasks. Moreover, the capitalists arranged their relatives as store managers, probably hoping to find a “trusted person” through kinship to manage the store. The store manager is just using his authority to oppress people, pushing his work onto you. Regarding this matter, I think you can play him a trick; if there’s a chance, subtly hint to your capitalist boss about this issue. He wouldn’t ignore his own accounts. But you shouldn’t rely on the capitalist to reduce your workload because their nature is to exploit. The store manager and the capitalist are ultimately in the same group; you can only use their self-interest to deal with your store manager.

I don’t usually browse Tieba often, seeing you use so many sweat bean sprouts.
If you can’t edit that self-introduction anymore, talk to the administrator. There might be a problem with the settings. The unfinished part from before still shouldn’t just be left unresolved.

This is too abstract here, hard to understand. What exactly did he show you? What happened that almost made you leave the world (forced, accidental)? Does “gave up the idea of death” mean you had suicidal thoughts? Why did you give up after the new store?

My understanding of the translation is: reading online novels, writing online novels.
I think the idea that you can make money from writing these as a second job is quite naive. Moreover, the novels you read that help you develop ideas for writing online novels are naturally just online novels. You are learning from modern bourgeois online literature’s dramatic logic, which harms yourself and produces toxic works that harm others. You can talk about what genres you specifically read.

Just feeling good while watching, right? Once you detach from that state or return to work, don’t you feel like you wasted your time for nothing and feel empty and regretful?

The type of books and movies matter. Are you only watching bourgeois art and literature?
Have you finished reading the magazine on the forum? I suggest you use your free time to learn something, or your brain will keep declining. Don’t watch bourgeois novels and movies during rest and entertainment, find some socialist-era art and literature instead.

My writing order was reversed; he was the one who first told me: “Show me something that chills my heart.” It was that his salary was the same as mine. After working for a year, my salary didn’t increase, which was really heartbreaking.
Regarding why I gave up the idea of death when I moved to the new store, it was because the boss at that time intentionally promoted me to store manager. I also genuinely wanted to run the store well, treating it as the start of my second life. My salary was much higher than before, so I stopped thinking about death.

I mainly read romance novels because they are very profitable. As for the sweat soybean emoji, I was really speechless when recalling that incident. Whenever I write any kind of document, I tend to add my own emotions into it. I admit I was somewhat wrong about this, and I will avoid this issue in the future.

Ah, you didn’t mention before why you had thoughts of self-harm. Was it because the work pressure in the store was too great?
But from these two paragraphs, it seems that your hope in life is actually just to become a store manager. You also described the appearance of the store manager you encountered. The role of a store manager is usually to be a supervisor and assistant for capitalists, responsible for managing workers. In this environment, exploitative ideas are likely to develop gradually. You also mentioned that store managers have certain privileges.
When I worked as a waiter (though very briefly), I saw a store manager who was a classmate of my father, promoted from among employees, and very obedient. This person was completely obedient to the boss’s will, diligently controlling and oppressing workers, and was also very close to the boss, holding a different stance from other workers in the store.
And your statement about wanting to run the store well sounds quite ironic. This store belongs to capitalists; workers in it can only sell their labor to get the value of their labor power. The profits (surplus value) from good management of the store all belong to the capitalists. What does that have to do with ordinary workers?
Yet you think about running the store well and even treat this as the starting point of your life. You also said a lot of good things about this boss, viewing her as your lifesaver.
You also mentioned that she consolidates her interests by reusing family members, etc.
It seems that although you are a worker, many of your thoughts are starting to lean towards the perspective of the capitalists.

It’s okay, just say everything you want to say first.

Because the sweat soybean emoji pack mainly spread on Tieba. Moreover, this kind of emoji pack itself carries a vulgar cultural connotation, so no matter how you use it, it will somewhat make the speech look vulgar. The writing style also reflects a person’s mental state, so it is recommended to change your writing style a bit and pay more attention in daily life.

Your self-awareness makes you wonder what sustains Sky Blue in such an almost relentless job with no salary increase and ongoing physical and psychological suppression. Is it just for basic survival, or to improve your quality of life on top of that? Regarding your淫乐, is it that you feel it’s a waste of time during the act but can’t control it, or that after compressed time for rest and reflection, you realize it’s a waste? My small-bourgeois traits also have their serious aspects; I haven’t completely eliminated those淫乐 either, but every time I engage in them, I almost don’t feel joy or relaxation, rather viewing them critically, and I don’t want to continue after a very short time.

Sky Blue, don’t go reading or writing these just because they make good money. Personally, even if all my friends think I am extremely rational about love (of course, because they are all from the petit bourgeois class telling me this), I still can’t see clearly in love. My恋爱脑 (romantic obsession) is closely related to these romantic literary genres. You can check out my self-introduction and the replies below. I once saw your past experiences and felt truly悲痛. Such romance stories not only make it hard to improve your current life but also subtly lead you toward another extreme.

By the way, your self-introduction is also somewhat incomplete, isn’t it?

Yes, so my second self-introduction post is specifically used to answer those incomplete questions. I have currently moved it to a note, planning to finish writing it all before publishing it together.

I am unable to leave this job temporarily due to family reasons. There is not much pressure in this regard now. My store manager has now eased the pressure on me; this is the result of my resistance.

In the service industry, store managers and supervisors are certainly primarily concerned with the interests of capitalists, because their duty is to manage and oppress workers on behalf of capitalists. After all, with so many stores, capitalists can’t personally oversee each one. If you want to be a democratic store manager who cares about workers, capitalists would have already considered this and would regularly send supervisors, mystery shoppers, or other agents to inspect the store. Once they find that you don’t align with their interests, they will immediately dismiss you and replace you with a manager who is better at controlling and oppressing workers. Running this store is also for the benefit of the capitalists. Using additional products to attract customers is also to satisfy the capitalists’ interests. The money from extra sales doesn’t go to the workers, and even the so-called “performance” bonuses are negligible, effectively increasing the workers’ workload and making them serve the bourgeoisie who look down on laborers humbly. Capitalists will appropriately give these managers and store supervisors raises and higher status than ordinary workers, making their economic and ideological positions fully bourgeois. I’ve seen managers and supervisors who abuse their authority to do whatever they want, and some even verbally abuse or insult workers at will, or even commit obscene or more egregious acts. I think you can understand this feeling because, in the restaurant I previously worked at, the only manager would physically touch employees regardless of gender, and any resistance from employees would result in immediate dismissal, just like the bourgeoisie playing with and insulting the proletariat.

Unbelievable, how talented do you have to be to get promoted, or does it have nothing to do with it?

Unbelievable, this store manager is disgusting

But you shouldn’t do that either, increasing customer flow just makes you tired, and it also makes capitalists earn more, which is not good for you

But he has already made a fortune by exploiting you, and this is just a small act of charity

Unfortunately, very few authors can live parasitically on copyright by writing novels, and this practice is also detached from productive labor, only breeding complacency and enjoyment

That’s how it is, spiritual opium does a lot of harm

Scary, how many cigarettes do you smoke a day now

Said to be a relative
