Water Tune Head • Wind passes over the river
Wind passes over the river, sunlight causes all trees to wither. Everywhere is desolate land, everyone feels bowed down.
Last year, the red faded and dispersed, only seeing the less wise, the whole country is filled with resentment. I wish to dedicate my remaining life to rebuilding the republic!
This poem is too forced, very scattered, and lacks substance. It doesn’t mention any specific revolutionary content, only vaguely talks about revolution. Moreover, it lacks artistic quality, essentially just using classical Chinese to say plain language without combining the rhythm, romanticism, and content of poetry. You can look at Chairman Mao’s poetry; Mao’s poetry is a perfect example of the combination of politics and artistry.
Artistic creation should be done after experiencing and practicing; otherwise, it can only be self-entertainment and cannot inspire the masses.
Maybe I should just delete it, as it doesn’t have any positive effect on those who read the post.
It is unclear what the background of your creation of this poem is, what thoughts prompted its creation. I have also composed some poetry before, but mostly for self-entertainment, and at that time I had not yet come into contact with Marxism. In fact, although we do not admire the parallel prose and poetry of the feudal society of the past that are symmetrical and uniform, we also oppose petty-bourgeois creations that are meaningless, lack clear significance, or lack political content. If you are interested in literature and art, you can study Mao Zedong’s writings such as “Opposing the Party Eight-Legged Essay” and “Speech at the Yan’an Literary and Art Symposium.”
Putting resources in the wrong place is garbage; putting garbage in the right place is resources. Putting it here for everyone’s reference and critique is also quite good.
Why did I suddenly feel inspired to speak out?
Actually, it’s not really a spontaneous outpouring; it’s just that my petty bourgeois intellectual habit hasn’t been thoroughly transformed, and that competitive feeling has surfaced.
In the research group I mentioned in my self-introduction, two people posted their own poems. The person who posted the poem first said that the poem posted later didn’t have rhyme, and that the tone and prosody didn’t conform to the format required by the poem’s theme and materials. I was thinking at the time that I could also write, so I forced myself to imitate the tone and prosody of “Shui Diao Ge Tou” (Water Melody) and fit words into that pattern.
I reflect that this is really not appropriate; it wastes my valuable study time. Engaging in this kind of behavior—merely playing with words in a manner that only corrupts the mind and harms the revolution—is wrong, and I must correct it.
It is recommended that Wu Yaojiu no longer waste time in this kind of survey group. One reason is that these groups are constantly discussing empty talk about revolution, but no one is truly patient enough to study theory or engage in revolutionary activities. Another reason is that the atmosphere inside is toxic, which also negatively influences your thoughts. It’s like someone inside saying they want to write poetry, but then intellectuals look down on each other and scheming occurs, and you are also influenced, wanting to compare yourself with them, even wasting time writing poetry on the forum. Instead of wasting time like this, it would be better to read more books and learn more Marxism.
I suggest that you, while ensuring safety, talk to others in those groups about Marxism, and try to bring as many people as possible who can be persuaded. Of course, propaganda should be methodical; while understanding their ideological outlook and political stance, discuss topics that are relevant or interesting to them, then use Marxist logic to convince them. Then, use the principles of the Chinese and Western revolutions to tell them the correct path for petty bourgeoisie self-reform, and bring them over.
If you can carry out propaganda activities like this, it’s much better than doing poetry.
Actually, the most crucial issue is the lack of revolutionary practice, so poetry lacks a source of creation, and wanting to write poetry can only be based on one’s own fantasies in the mind. It is also because of this that this poem appears very hollow.
Chairman Mao’s actions are always based on specific events and are inspired by feelings, but this poem imagines a sad scene where everyone bows to the Chinese revisionism and capitalism rules the world, then calls for rebuilding the republic, which is disconnected from reality. Moreover, “everywhere desolate” and “everyone is bowing” are also problematic; they are too pessimistic. In reality, the struggle of revolutionary people is not insignificant, and it is not desolate—it’s just that the spark has not yet ignited a prairie fire. It also seems that Wu Tianjiu, being a small bourgeoisie himself, has not had much contact with the people and cannot see their struggles, which leads to the mistake of viewing the people only as sufferers filled with resentment but powerless to resist, and seeing himself as a hero rebuilding the republic. Poetry creation is something to be considered later; now, what I have written lacks charm and can only develop a petty-bourgeois heroism, which is detrimental to thought.
How has Wu Yaijiu been recently? I noticed your activity level has dropped sharply. What happened during the recent New Year?
I spent the first semester of my third year of high school alone at home, not going anywhere. This lasted for more than five months. My mom always said this wasn’t good. Now that it’s the New Year, a few days ago she took me around to visit relatives. Her original intention was for me to talk more with others, but in reality, I just kept reading after meals. I usually come back very late from there, and today things finally calmed down.
There was a small incident these days: my dad was persuaded again to go gambling and act as the dealer. I am extremely opposed to this, even thinking about reporting him to the police, but I also realize I am not financially independent yet and cannot leave this family for now, so I just gave up.
Time is quite tight. Originally, I was supposed to go back to school for make-up classes the day after tomorrow (most of my classmates support the make-up classes, thinking that since it’s only a few months left, they have to do this to get into a good university. They can’t gather enough evidence to report him, and reporting alone is dangerous, as it could make us targets of the reactionary bourgeoisie academia). However, under my strong opposition, I set my return date for the 9th. They even wanted me to pick up my winter holiday homework, but I don’t plan to do it, as I think it’s a waste of time, so I didn’t take it.
My current plan is to spend a lot of time reading books, finish them, then post on forums, occasionally browsing new topics. So I haven’t been very active lately.
If you have any difficulties in life, you can also come to the forum to discuss; the forum is not limited to theoretical discussions.
What is Wu Yaowu’s school like exactly? Is it the kind of school with many opportunistic dogs? Has your school had previous cases of being targeted after reports? I remember when I was in third year of high school, I often reported illegal make-up classes at bourgeois schools. To avoid being found out by the school, I used my brother’s phone to call, but I could have called the local 12345 mayor hotline and reported anonymously. When making the call, I asked the operator to state their ID number and recorded the entire call, requesting that they not disclose their phone number. I think this method could work. But maybe because the high school I attended before didn’t have many opportunistic dogs, there were also quite a few reports against the school.
Wu Yaojiu can also start a post like Struggle to talk about his studies and life. As for how to become a steadfast Marxist, it requires not only solid theoretical literacy but also standing firm on the proletarian position. Moreover, if the class stance is not firm, it is also difficult to learn the theory well. Life is everywhere class struggle; only by persisting in struggle and transforming one’s thoughts can one be revolutionary for a lifetime.
There are many speculators, and there have been two instances where students reported being called in for reprimands and threatened with expulsion. There was even a case in a private group chat of the entire grade where someone was reported to the school by some speculators for criticizing the school for shortening holidays to make up for classes. As a result, that person was forced to apologize in the private group, which was then disbanded.
When I was in high school, either first or second year, students held protests, but they were spontaneous, without organization or discipline. Most of the crowd was just watching the show. This led to the five or six students who shouted the loudest being individually caught and ‘beaten to serve as a warning,’ while the rest of the students, fearing for themselves, all ran away. They did not organize a collective opposition to the school’s persecution of those few students. In the end, they only got an extra day off (which was actually normal anyway), but that was enough to satisfy those who didn’t actually participate in the protest. (Ironically, they were just spectators, never shouting, and whenever real danger arose, they ran faster than anyone else.)
Truly heaven-defying, if there are classmates around you with higher awareness, you can guide them to criticize this kind of academic thief and fence-sitter mentality.
