Recently, a video of villagers manually clearing fallen rocks from the popular internet-famous road in Chang’an Township, Fengjie County, Chongqing, has circulated online, sparking concern and discussion among netizens. The road in the footage is called Wuzhifeng Changjiu Road, which has been a popular spot for tourists to check in over the past few years. However, due to the irrational and unscientific road traffic planning in the middle capitalist society, on September 27, 2023, this road experienced a large-scale landslide, with a collapse volume of 30,000 cubic meters, leading to road closure.
On January 17, 2025, villagers involved in clearing the road stated that it takes nearly thirty to forty minutes to travel from Wuzhifeng Changjiu Road to Fengjie County seat. Since the road was cut off, villagers have had to detour via old routes, which is very inconvenient and often takes nearly one or two hours. Local villagers sell agricultural products like corn and potatoes, and the transportation costs for these goods have increased by one to three yuan each time. Sometimes, they cannot sell their produce, making the round trip even more burdensome. Under the urban-rural gap in capitalist society, the impoverishment of farmers’ lives is more severe than that of urban residents. Farmers are already struggling financially, and the disruption of transportation makes it even harder to sustain their livelihoods. As a result, dozens of villagers spontaneously organized to clear fallen rocks from the collapsed section of the road, hoping to open a shortcut.
However, the section of road that experienced a landslide as early as September 2023 was completely neglected by government authorities. It was only recently, after the video spread, that local government officials had to halt the villagers’ efforts for “safety reasons.” But did the villagers go to dig and open the road because they didn’t know it was dangerous? No. They were forced by extreme hardship in life to ignore their safety and clear the rocks manually to avoid an additional transportation cost of one to three yuan. On January 18, a staff member from the Chang’an Township government in Fengjie County told reporters that after the road was cut off, villagers frequently reported transportation difficulties, and the township government was actively working to resolve the issue. “Until we come up with a good (unblocking) plan, villagers can only detour temporarily to solve their travel problems.” However, if the middle-capitalist government truly cared about villagers’ safety, why did it allow the collapsed road to threaten safety for over a year without taking action? Clearly, they only seek to maintain their rule through superficial appearances and will never genuinely help villagers or solve their difficulties.
It’s too outrageous. The mid-term repair, which boasts of being a construction fanatic, can’t even fix a rural road. If this road leads to their important (plundering) raw material source, it would probably be repaired within three days.
This news cannot find more reports, especially about the cause of the collapse, which none of these reports mention. I am really worried about the safety of these villagers, as it is said that local mudslides and landslides are frequent.
Yeah, yeah. Online reports are all the same, no more news. I really don’t know how those villagers are going to survive.
A pack of wolves that only see利益
I’m afraid I didn’t originally intend to use any good materials.
The only repair done is to fix the roads that allow officials to profit; if they can’t make money, they don’t care. The roads in our county have been renovated over and over again, and I heard that the government ‘owed’ a lot of money because of road repairs.
They never cared about others’ lives and deaths. There should be no illusions about such a government.
