Recently, nine departments including the Ministry of Public Security jointly issued the “Opinions on Strengthening the Implementation of the Domestic Violence Warning System” (hereinafter referred to as “Opinions”), claiming that this move “aims to further play the role of the domestic violence warning system, actively intervene to resolve family and romantic conflicts, effectively prevent and stop domestic violence, maintain equal, harmonious, and civilized family relations, promote family harmony and social stability.” However, is it really because the Nazi government couldn’t bear to see women become victims of domestic violence that it issued such regulations out of kindness? The facts are not so.
According to the Chinese government, “Since the enactment of the Anti-Domestic Violence Law, 98,000 warnings have been issued by public security organs nationwide in 2023… detecting family and romantic conflicts early, resolving them quickly… promoting family and social harmony.” From this, it can be seen that their so-called “help for victims of domestic violence to get out of trouble” is merely issuing a warning that has no deterrent effect to the abuser, then persuading the victim not to pursue further, ultimately achieving “family harmony”—which is to indulge the victim to continue suffering and the abuser to continue abusing. In this process, the perpetrator faces no substantive punishment, and the victim’s justice is not served. Instead, it is just the husband repeatedly beating and hitting, and the victim repeatedly enduring humiliation and silence. On the surface, the Nazis seem to achieve “harmony” in families through this kind of muddling approach, but in reality, in a society with private ownership, especially in today’s capitalist society, women’s inequality in economic and political status has already determined that they will inevitably become family slaves, forced to obey men.
This bloody reality strips women of their last dignity and turns men into household masters. The Nazis appear to be “solving family conflicts fairly,” but in fact, they are aiding and abetting evil. As a collection of China’s most reactionary Confucian system and fascist dictatorship, the Chinese government is promoting a hierarchical Confucian system through the indulgence of domestic violence to consolidate its reactionary and decayed rule. No matter how much the Chinese government boasts about its achievements in preventing and combating domestic violence, the words in its “Anti-Domestic Violence Law” reveal: “Domestic violence is innocent, oppression is justified! Men enslaving women should not be punished!”
The broad working class should be clear that unless the patriarchal shackles imposed on women by the Chinese government are thoroughly dismantled, the liberation of the working class itself will not come. Only by completely destroying the ideological soil that sustains patriarchy, overthrowing the Chinese government’s rule, rebuilding a socialist motherland, and ultimately eliminating patriarchy can we truly eradicate the phenomenon of human oppression represented by domestic violence.
