Chinese-British Man Teacher Sexually Assaults Kindergarten Children, Pleads Guilty to 26 Counts in Court

A Chinese-British man named Chen in the UK was accused of sexually assaulting multiple children and filming obscene images while working at a kindergarten.
(Central News Agency reporter Chen Yun-yu, London, December 3) A Chinese-British man named Chen was charged with sexually assaulting children and filming obscene images during his tenure at a kindergarten, with the youngest victim being only 2 years old. Chen appeared in court in London today, pleaded guilty on the spot, and is scheduled for trial in late January next year.
According to information provided by the Metropolitan Police, a 45-year-old Chen named Vincent Chan was born and raised in the UK, residing in Finchley, North London. The area is well-regarded for its safety, school districts, and quality of life indicators.
Chen has no prior criminal record; at the time of the offense, he was employed at a kindergarten located in West Hampstead, North London, serving as a teacher’s aide and caregiver, with an arts major. He is charged with 26 crimes, with known offenses occurring between 2022 and 2024, including sexual assault on children and filming obscene images of children.
Today, Chen admitted to crimes involving more than 25,000 obscene images of children. His employment at the kindergarten was from 2017 to 2024.
Detective Lewis Basford, who led the police investigation, said that sexual assault and abuse of children are among the most heinous crimes, and Chen’s offenses spanned several years, showing a calculated, predatory pattern of behavior. Chen infiltrated places that should provide a safe environment for children, abusing the trust of parents and the community to conceal his crimes and harm vulnerable groups.
Basford emphasized that police are continuing to investigate multiple digital devices, including phones and laptops related to Chen, examining their contents to assess his activities in all relevant locations.
In other words, Chen’s crimes may extend beyond the 26 counts currently charged. Police are continuing to investigate further, seeking all involved parties and victims. Before working at the kindergarten, Chen had also worked at a school.
Police described Chen’s crimes as among the most shocking child sexual abuse cases ever investigated by the London Metropolitan Police, with trauma to children and parents likely to be long-lasting.
Police stated that Chen was first arrested in June last year after a staff member at the kindergarten reported that Chen had filmed inappropriate content of several children during work.
The filming tools used by Chen were iPads provided by the kindergarten, and he not only filmed but also edited the footage with overlays and “music,” transforming the original images. Police pointed out that Chen would use music or sound effects to “add comedic effects.”
According to police, Chen would share his “works” with colleagues via photos or still images. Some parents are considering legal action against the kindergarten and noted that they had expressed concerns about Chen’s behavior before the case was exposed.
The kindergarten where Chen previously worked is no longer operating at its original location. The site is now another kindergarten, unrelated to this case.
When police first arrived to arrest Chen, they seized a large number of digital devices from his home and the kindergarten, totaling up to 69 devices, including Chen’s personal devices and those belonging to the kindergarten.
These devices contained大量 child pornography videos and photos, including evidence of Chen’s sexual assault on children. Evidence shows that Chen exploited his position to directly assault children at the kindergarten, often when many students and staff were present. Chen’s duties included feeding children, changing and cleaning them, playing games, and engaging in various activities with them.
During the initial arrest, police only seized electronic devices and released Chen on bail. However, after reviewing大量 images and discovering evidence of child sexual abuse, Chen was re-arrested on September 8 this year and charged on September 9 with crimes related to sexual assault and filming obscene images of children. Following police concern, Chen was suspended immediately after the initial investigation.
Preliminary investigations indicate that no further evidence of physical contact or abuse involving children has been found on the seized devices. Currently, four children—all female, aged 2 to 4—are confirmed victims of Chen’s sexual assault and filming of obscene images.
Chen worked at a kindergarten under the “Bright Horizons” brand system, which has multiple kindergartens across England, mostly in London.

A kindergarten employee in Bristol, UK, was accused of sexually assaulting multiple children. On the 9th, the Bristol Crown Court jury found 30-year-old Nathan Bennett guilty of 2 counts of rape of children under 13, 4 counts of sexual assault of children under 13, and 2 counts of invasive sexual assault of children under 13. The victims were five boys attending Patou King Street Kindergarten, aged between 2 and 3 at the time. Bennett previously admitted to 13 other sexual offenses related to four of the boys.
According to foreign media reports on the 9th, Bennett started working at the kindergarten as an early childhood educator in July 2024. In February 2025, the kindergarten principal discovered Bennett reaching into a child’s pants while reviewing surveillance footage. She immediately sent Bennett home and reported to the police. Local police launched a six-month investigation, and Bennett was arrested in August 2025. The kindergarten closed in December 2025.
Bennett denied having pedophilic tendencies during the trial, claiming he was “imitating” the abuse he suffered in childhood. He said he experienced “many sexual acts directed at me” when he was young and argued that his contact with children was to “make them happy and feel better.” When asked if he wanted to say anything to the victims’ parents, Bennett stated: “I never intended to hurt anyone.”
A spokesperson for Patou Kindergarten said the company was shocked and distressed by the case details. Investigators also said that investigating such young children is extremely challenging and painful for everyone involved. Judge William Hart said, “These are some of the youngest children I have dealt with in many years,” emphasizing that the convicted pedophile faces a very long prison sentence.
Bennett is currently in custody awaiting trial and is scheduled for sentencing on March 16.
