More than ten days later the storefront was directly changed into some fresh produce supermarket, and the police station is still waiting for the health commission to issue an investigation result. But three months have passed and there is still no progress. It is clear that this clinic colluded with local government agencies, playing the role of a local strongman. It is unknown how much dirty money has been squeezed from workers through indiscriminate drug prescriptions and treatment. The person who administered the drugs, Wang Moumou, did not obtain any medical qualification at all, but only compensated 200,000 yuan and disappeared, yet no coercive measures have been taken. Only a report from the local Health Bureau stated that “administrative penalties should be imposed according to the law, and filing should be suggested.”

Nevertheless, this matter is only a microcosm of the evil medical system under centralized rule. We cannot merely criticize these individuals and institutions one by one; otherwise we will fall into the pit of reformism, expecting some lofty officials from above to adjudicate justice. Instead, there should also be a sharp critique of this profit-driven capitalist system.
