ㅤㅤIn 2021, Ms. Wang met a doctor from the urology department of a hospital in Beijing and they became romantically involved. The two regularly stayed at her rented residence in a community in Shunyi District, Beijing. Two years later, on May 14, 2023, Ms. Wang discovered she was approximately six weeks pregnant, and the man bluntly said: “I don’t want to get married, don’t want to have kids.” He even suggested to Ms. Wang, “Take the medicine early and have an abortion, just do it now that you’re pregnant, it’s less harmful to your body.” Such advice seemed to consider her health, but as a doctor, he could not have been unaware that Ms. Wang, at 35, was a high-risk pregnancy, and abortion at this stage was very dangerous. Nonetheless, he demanded that Ms. Wang have an abortion so he could play with her without worries.
ㅤㅤAfter Ms. Wang refused to abort, the man still refused to give up. A few days later, he directly added abortion pills into Ms. Wang’s drink, even risking harming her life to evade his responsibilities! Surveillance footage from the rental shows that at 10:20 p.m. on May 20, the man added two kinds of drugs into Ms. Wang’s water cup and a boxed prun juice drink, even holding up the cup to observe the dissolution of the drugs. This indicates premeditation: he used his doctor identity to purchase mifepristone, a prescription drug; to prevent her from noticing the bitter taste and sediment, he also used a straw to put the drugs into the drink.
ㅤㅤOn May 21, after drinking the beverage, Ms. Wang suddenly experienced abdominal pain and heavy bleeding, leading to a miscarriage. When she called her boyfriend to ask if he had drugged her, she received confirmation. Despite the fact that she experienced heavy bleeding and miscarriage after taking the drugs, the man showed no remorse, only thinking of escaping his guilt. The next day, he sent a WeChat message to Ms. Wang: “What I did this time is really sorry for you, like an immature kid. We’ve been together for so long, I still have feelings for you… I don’t know how to face you anymore, so I will turn myself in. Spare my life.”
ㅤㅤSuch a scumbag who manipulates women’s bodies and, after her pregnancy, rushes to shirk responsibility—how could he suddenly regret his actions? His so-called “deep feelings” are nothing but shameless lies to lessen his guilt, and his plea of “turning himself in” and “spare my life” reveal his true purpose of avoiding responsibility.
ㅤㅤTo seek justice, Ms. Wang filed a lawsuit. In court, the man admitted to putting mifepristone into her water cup and said he reduced the dose because of the bitter taste that might reveal his deed. He also admitted to purchasing the drug himself, knowing as a doctor that it could cause heavy bleeding. When asked why he didn’t tell Ms. Wang, he said: “There were disagreements, and I knew she wouldn’t agree, so I just did it myself.”
ㅤㅤIn capitalist society, women are merely regarded as sexual tools by men and are fundamentally denied respect as “people.” After manipulating her body and causing her pregnancy, the man saw her as a burden to be discarded, claiming he wouldn’t marry her or take responsibility. However, women in this society have no way out; Ms. Wang, unable to raise her child alone and fearful of Confucian social prejudices against women, could only hope that the man would continue to take responsibility. But upon learning of her pregnancy, the man saw the fetus as an obstacle to abandoning her, and he wanted to eliminate it quickly. After doing such a thing, as a doctor aware of the serious harm the drugs could cause, he showed no remorse and had no respect for women. Even when she protested, he ignored her opinions and her physical and mental health, secretly attacking her.
ㅤㅤOn November 12, 2024, the Beijing Shunyi District Court sentenced the man to a written apology to the woman and ordered him to pay a total of 226,000 yuan in medical expenses, lost wages, and emotional damages. Ms. Wang received the court’s civil judgment, but the perpetrator filed an appeal, claiming the punishment was too harsh and expressing dissatisfaction. Ms. Wang said: “I requested that he post the apology letter at his workplace, but the court ordered it to be posted in my residential community. He’s not satisfied and has appealed. We are awaiting the response.”
ㅤㅤAs the perpetrator, such beastly behavior should have been publicly exposed at his workplace. However, the court only ordered him to post the apology in Ms. Wang’s community, which was already a significant compromise by Ms. Wang and a protection of male oppression of women. This brazen man even refused to accept this minor superficial change.
ㅤㅤOn November 13, Ms. Wang learned that the man had filed an appeal with the Beijing Third Intermediate People’s Court. He argued that Ms. Wang had a false positive and biochemical pregnancy, and that the hospital’s diagnosis was a natural miscarriage, which was different from the drug-induced abortion she described. But biochemical pregnancy cannot even implant, and her miscarriage did not match biochemical pregnancy. Even with surveillance evidence, he tried to argue that it was impossible to determine whether she had already drunk water with drugs. He also falsely claimed that after mixing the drugs, he immediately removed two pills, and that his drug-dissolving behavior was only trace amounts, with no evidence linking his actions to the harm. He hopes to overturn the compensation through counter-lawsuits and demands that Ms. Wang apologize to him. Such blatant lies clearly reveal the shameless nature of the underhanded man in capitalist society. After suffering oppression from him, Ms. Wang resolutely chose to defend her rights through legal means. However, under Confucian dominance, the Chinese court, as an instrument of violence, ultimately only serves to uphold patriarchal rule. Legitimate struggle cannot truly bring “justice” to women. To achieve real liberation, women must join the proletarian revolution and completely overthrow patriarchy and private ownership.
