Creation: Political Economy Group of the Proletarian Liberation Struggle Association
On November 10th, multiple major cities along the US East and West Coasts erupted in “Anti-Trump Protests,” with thousands of Americans taking to the streets to express their dissatisfaction with Trump’s re-election. During the US presidential campaign, Trump promised to carry out the largest-scale undocumented immigrant deportation in American history. After winning the election, he stated he would immediately push forward with this plan on his first day in office, completing the construction of the US-Mexico border wall built during his previous term. Most illegal immigrants in the US come from difficult living conditions in their home countries, risking everything to come to the US; many have perished during crossing the border. Once in the US, they do not live in a paradise but are forced to endure harsher labor exploitation than legal immigrants, relying on black-market jobs for survival. They do the most exhausting work, earn the lowest wages, and face frequent threats of unemployment, living on the brink of despair, struggling to survive in the US. Now, with Trump re-elected, implementing racial segregation policies and national oppression, he declares he will mass deport these illegal immigrants. In response, protesters from several workers’ and immigrant rights groups in New York City held marches with banners reading “Protect Our Future!” and “Hate Will Not Make America Great!” They shouted: “We will not back down,” “We are here, we will not leave!”
Furthermore, Trump’s policies restricting women’s abortion rights have also faced opposition. At the headquarters of the conservative think tank, the Heritage Foundation, in Washington D.C., a large-scale protest organized by the Women’s March erupted. Protesters held signs with slogans such as “Gender Equality,” “Good Girls Don’t Make History,” “You Are Not Alone,” and “When I Have No Choice, What about My Freedom?” They also shouted: “We believe we will win!” The scope of this women’s movement is larger than that of 2016. On the 10th in Seattle, a large number of demonstrators gathered as well. They stood outside the iconic Space Needle, holding posters that read “Protest Against Trump and the Two-Party War Machine,” “Build People’s Movements, Fight War, Oppression, and Genocide!” Some among the crowd wore Arab headscarves in solidarity with the Palestinian people, while others wore raincoats. One protester shouted to the crowd: “Any president who comes to power disappoints workers.”
Whether Democrat or Republican, the American people are already deeply disappointed. Trump’s victory this time is orchestrated behind the scenes by the monopolist bourgeoisie, not a genuine choice by the American people. Many Americans have seen through Trump’s fascist nature. The vigorous protests declare that the American people will not be deceived by Trump’s lies nor incited by nationalism. “Transform fear into struggle!” they shout with loud slogans, but this spontaneous movement is still far from becoming a nationwide political demonstration.
The “Women’s March,” which claims to fight for women’s liberation, has already begun to covet potential political capital. Its executive director, Rachel Olieri Camona, stated that the organization has become more “mature,” focusing more on building “political strength.” “Just getting people onto the streets is not enough… (this movement) is not about fame, but about building power.” Indeed, merely mobilizing people is insufficient; if a movement cannot establish political power, it cannot advance toward its goals. However, without a super-class politics led by the Communist Party, the spontaneous movements of the masses can only build bourgeois political power. The “Women’s March” organization, led by Camona, nominally opposes Trump’s oppression of women, but its solution is merely to flatter and submit to the Harris group. The American working class has long realized that no matter who becomes president, their promises to improve people’s lives will never be fulfilled. The American proletariat urgently needs a truly revolutionary party to lead them toward liberation. When that happens, the vigorous spontaneous movements will develop into conscious struggles, and the American proletariat will truly transform American society. “Transform fear into struggle!” will become a real fight.
As is well known, Trump is the choice of the American people, although the U.S. election voting system is ‘winner-takes-all’ and only requires half of the electoral votes, and the monopolistic bourgeoisie will manipulate the election through various means; who comes to power depends on the interests of the monopolistic bourgeoisie, but Trump is definitely the choice of the American people.
Difficult to hold. In fact, Trump is also just a representative of the reactionary monopolistic bourgeoisie. Does supporting him, the big capitalist Elon Musk, also mean he is part of the “American people”?
Without Musk, Trump is still banned on Twitter and can only thrive in the real world through the garbage app he developed himself. Musk can be said to be Trump’s surrogate parent.
