On June 12, 2025, an Air India Boeing 787-8 “Dreamliner” passenger plane crashed near Ahmedabad Airport in Gujarat, India. It is reported that this flight was AI171, originally scheduled to fly to the UK. On-site footage shows that shortly after takeoff, the aircraft rapidly descended, collided with a building, then exploded and caught fire, with wreckage scattered everywhere. Later, Indian Asian News International, citing police sources, confirmed that the flight carried a total of 242 people, with only one survivor; additionally, since the crash site was a local medical college dormitory, there were ground casualties. As of the 19th, the death toll was 279.
Currently, aside from various rumors circulating online, there is no official investigation report confirming the cause of the accident. However, based on available verified information and footage, the broad consensus in the aviation community is that this is likely another aviation accident caused by component failure (dual-engine low-altitude failure). We will refrain from unfounded speculation and instead use this incident as a starting point to review two similar air crashes, examining the damage caused by these “our simple goal: making the world a better place” capitalist companies controlling the aviation industry.
Engine Detached Mid-Air — Israel Airlines Flight 1862
On October 4, 1992, an Israel Airlines Boeing 747-258F cargo plane, scheduled to depart from JFK Airport in New York, fly via Amsterdam to Tel Aviv, Israel, crashed near Amsterdam. The flight had four crew members and carried a large amount of cargo. The plane took off smoothly at 18:21. About seven minutes later, when the aircraft climbed above 6,500 feet, engine No. 3 and its pylon suddenly separated from the wing and collided with engine No. 4, causing both to detach. The crew promptly contacted air traffic control for help and reported the situation, then coordinated to return to Schiphol Airport. Although both engines were damaged, the crew made every effort to fly back to Schiphol. Unfortunately, the aircraft lost control and ultimately crashed into two 11-story apartment buildings in the Bijlmermeer neighborhood of Amsterdam.
The apartments were densely populated, mostly by immigrants from Suriname and Aruba, along with some illegal immigrants—working-class people seeking livelihood in the Netherlands. The aircraft was carrying a large amount of aviation fuel at the time, which ignited rapidly, causing a fierce fire. Flames and thick smoke could be seen for kilometers around. Despite hundreds of firefighters arriving quickly, they could only spray water on the periphery due to the intense blaze. The scene was filled with screams and the smell of burnt material. After the fire was extinguished, only wreckage remained.
This incident was called “the worst air disaster in Dutch history,” prompting a joint investigation team. We will briefly mention the chaotic and lengthy investigation process, focusing on the main culprit— the metal connector (safety pin bolt) linking engine No. 3 to the fuselage. This small metal component, due to deliberate negligence in design, manufacturing, and maintenance, exceeded fatigue limits, leading to engine detachment and the crash. Similar incidents had occurred before, caused by such failures, including China Airlines Flight 358, British Overseas Airways Corporation Flight 712, and a Brazilian transoceanic aircraft with 150 onboard, all involving engine detachment shortly after takeoff. Boeing’s capitalists shamelessly claimed these were not aircraft issues during the investigation, trying to distance themselves until conclusive evidence was presented.
Furthermore, after this disaster, the Dutch government released a highly absurd report: excluding crew, only 39 ground casualties and a few dozen injuries, fewer than the death toll. But witnesses and rescue personnel saw hundreds taken to hospitals that day. The Amsterdam mayor admitted at least 250 fatalities, and police estimated no fewer than 200 dead, yet the official report changed the figures. Is this another cover-up? Even today, various official agencies cling to such false data, attempting to deceive the public, citing illegal immigration as a reason for data discrepancies. Shockingly, the cargo onboard was not just “some fruits and perfumes” as claimed by the bourgeois government. The scene was filled with a pungent chemical smell, and years later, many rescue workers and witnesses reported headaches, coughing, and skin problems—evidence of chemical exposure. The government’s lies are blatant. Israeli airline officials finally admitted that over 190 liters of methylphosphonic acid dimethyl ester (a precursor to the nerve agent sarin) were on board, but they still claimed the cargo was “legal and safe.” This is utterly reactionary and shameless!
For years, victims and families have demanded justice, but the reactionary bourgeois government always dismisses their claims as lacking direct evidence. The angry people say: “We lost not only our homes and loved ones but also the honesty that a country should have for its citizens.” To truly seek justice for the innocent victims, we cannot wait for the bourgeois government’s “honesty”—they will never give us real truth!
Second Deadliest Air Disaster in Aviation History — Japan Airlines Flight 123
Japan Airlines Flight 123 is one of the most infamous aviation accidents, notable for three reasons: first, it carried 524 seats in a high-density configuration, making it the deadliest single-aircraft crash in history with 509 passengers and 15 crew members onboard, all but four passengers perishing. On August 12, 1985, a Boeing 747 (registration JA8119) on this route took off from Haneda Airport at 18:12 local time, heading to Osaka. At 18:24, while flying over the Izu Peninsula’s east coast, about 11 tons of forward external force caused the pressure bulkhead at the rear of the aircraft to rupture, leading to the loss of the vertical stabilizer and auxiliary power unit. This caused complete failure of the hydraulic control system, rendering the aircraft uncontrollable. After a period of navigational confusion, the plane crashed into the mountains of Ueno Village, Gunma Prefecture, at 18:56:28, about 100 km from Tokyo.
This is the second remarkable aspect of this accident. The crew was experienced and performed well, making multiple efforts to save the aircraft. Post-accident investigations confirmed they had done everything possible. No one could have flown for half an hour under the same circumstances, and the crew was posthumously awarded the Polaris Award (the highest honor for civil pilots). This raises the question: what caused the crash? Sadly, it was again due to metal fatigue, and here is a detailed report.
1. On June 2, 1978, the aircraft involved in flight JAL115 at Itami Airport sustained tail damage.
2. After tail damage, Boeing did not properly repair the affected area. When replacing the pressure bulkhead, they should have used a single connecting plate to join the two panels, fixed with three rows of rivets. Instead, repair personnel used two discontinuous plates—one with one row of rivets, another with two—significantly increasing stress near the joint and reducing fatigue resistance by at least 70%. Over subsequent flights, repeated pressurization and depressurization caused metal fatigue to accumulate. Calculations show this faulty repair could withstand about 10,000 flights, but by the time of the crash, it had been 12,319 flights.
3. When climbing to about 7,000 meters, the accumulated metal fatigue in the pressure bulkhead reached its limit and ruptured under pressure difference. Explosive decompression occurred, with high-pressure air rushing into the tail, blowing off the vertical stabilizer and tearing main hydraulic lines, rendering the pilots unable to control the aircraft.
The most enraging part of this incident, and the third notable point, is the rescue phase after the crash. The first to discover the crash site was a US military C-130 transport plane, which relayed the location via radio to Japan and Yokota Air Base. The US military proposed parachuting two personnel to assess the situation and sent a UH-1 Iroquois helicopter, but mid-flight, they received orders to return to base. Japan’s Self-Defense Forces then took over the rescue efforts. Due to the mountainous terrain and poor visibility caused by rain, the Japanese helicopters deemed there were no survivors and refused to land. The ground rescue teams, doubting survivors, did not arrive until the next morning—14 hours after the crash—losing precious rescue time. A survivor’s relative, Yumi Oikawa, later recalled that hours after the crash, some passengers were still alive, crying out in pain, but rescue was delayed, and they died. Only four survived. One survivor, Keiko Kawanami, testified that her father and sister survived the crash but died later due to delayed rescue and injuries. It is unimaginable that innocent victims, after surviving a “natural disaster,” faced another “man-made” tragedy—waiting for rescue, their hope for survival exhausted. Yet, the official report shamelessly claimed only four survived, and the rest died immediately after the crash.
The shameless bourgeois government is universally vile, deceiving people everywhere. They refused to hold anyone accountable for the crash, only initially transferring related personnel from Japan Airlines and Boeing to prosecutors, but ultimately nothing came of it. Now, Japan, like the Netherlands and Israel, tries to use time to erase its crimes. But the people will never forget—the skies under bourgeois control are forever restless.
The Lies the Bourgeoisie Still Maintain
To this day, the bourgeoisie, especially Boeing—one of the two major aviation oligopolies with frequent air accidents—continues to boast about aviation safety. Some shameless bourgeois mouthpieces compare the casualty ratios of ground vehicle accidents and aviation accidents to prove aviation is safe. In reality, the safety of aviation is not determined by technology or comparison, but by who controls it. Today’s skies are dominated by the bourgeoisie; all civil aircraft are built to pursue surplus value for capitalists. Take Boeing as an example: when their planes fly, they only care about maximizing surplus value from workers’ 60-hour weekly labor, not about “dreams.” The aircraft involved in this crash was equipped with the most advanced technology, heavily promoted upon release, and held as a hope to save Boeing’s crisis—the 787 “Dreamliner.” But under bourgeois control, there are no true “dreams” in the skies—only death, and the people bear the consequences. Doesn’t this prove everything? Moreover, it’s not just Boeing; Airbus and other capitalist transport companies cannot provide real safety for the people’s travel. Air crashes and all transportation accidents, often seen as “natural disasters,” are actually “man-made disasters”!
Only by overthrowing this reactionary and decayed capitalist society can we reclaim the skies belonging to the people!
